Volkswagen introduced the Type 2 (the Beetle was Type 1) in 1950 to the German market with three models, the Transporter, the Kombi and the Microbus.
Various manufacturers in Europe, Asia and the US tried to emulate the success but ultimately it was such a popular vehicle that most countries imported it anyway. This model was registered in January 1966 and was purchased by a US serviceman in Germany. He was transferred to Britain and brought the Microbus with him. It was UK registered in 1969, hence the later number plate. A complete restoration in 2011 has resulted in a beautiful - and very practical - camper van in every way with an upgraded engine, a rebuilt gearbox and, most importantly, a disc brake conversion. There is a two-ring gas hob, sink, fridge and even a pull-out flat screen tv plus a memory foam ‘rock and roll’ bed.
Perfect for camping. Perfect for weddings. Perfect for film shoots. Perfect.
