March 1966 saw a huge landmark hit by Ford Mustang with the creation of its millionth model, only further cementing its significance in classic car history. There were around 600,000 Mustang units sold in 1966, making that the most successful year to date. No car model has ever topped this amount in its first year of sales since. Only around 10% of those were produced as one of the three convertible models; Standard, Bench Seat & Luxury. The retail price for a standard convertible model in 1966 was around $2600, making it accessible for families across America.

The one tonne, 4.7 litre powerhouse is the epitome of American muscle. Whilst some ‘experts’ argue that for a car to be deemed collectible, it must have been made in small numbers, what they cannot argue with is the sheer presence and desirability of 1960’s Mustangs in today’s classic car market.

The Ford Mustang is widely considered one of the most iconic cars in history. The vast array of models that have been produced (and are still being produced) since the first Mustang rolled off the production line in 1964 have meant they have become one of the most desirable car models ever made.
