The latest addition to our fleet is a 1968 MGB GT and what a find. To be completely honest, MGB’s hadn’t been on our radar at all but this one popped up through a friend of a friend of a friend kinda thing. I was playing golf with a friend of ours when he’d mentioned that he knew of someone selling their MGB that was, apparently, in very good condition.
Wind the clock forward by 5 days and we had ourselves our very own MGB GT to add to the fleet. I travelled to Norfolk with our restorer, Chris, armed with our Defender and trailer. A look through the car and test drive revealed that it really was in great condition. See, good things do come from playing golf!
We really think that the MGB is going to make for a brilliant self-drive hire experience. It’s so easy to get on with, straight forward to get used to and just looks the part. When the sun is shining in the summer months, I really can picture it cruising along the coast.
We don’t imagine it’s going to make for a great chauffeur driven wedding car, however. I attempted to get into the back of it to see how much room it has and it’s safe to say that I won’t be attempting it again anytime soon. For context, I’m 5 foot 10 and I won’t divulge my weight but can confirm Christmas was filled with a lot of Guinness and cheese. Essentially, I’m a lump. Anyhow, the back of the MGB probably won’t suit the comfort that our brides are usually after. That being said, the front is very spacious and I can definitely see it at a number of weddings but more than likely under the self-drive banner.
Really looking to forward to seeing how the MGB performs amongst the current fleet of classics. Our big hitters are our Red Mustang Convertible, Jaguar S-Type in white and Triumph Spitfire. I’m hopeful that it’s going to be up there with the best of them and help a lot of people create some amazing experiences.
As always, if you know of any classic cars for sale, please do let us know. We’re always keen to see what’s out there and whether we think it’ll fit into our fleet.
Side note - I got a guitar for Christmas and can now play the Gavin & Stacey theme tune. Might be the best day of my life.
